SAP takes the security of its vast product portfolio very seriously and thus releases security fixes for vulnerabilities reported by external researchers and their customers every second Tuesday of the month.

SAP Note 2878507 was released on 14.04.2020 and deals with "[CVE-2020-6195] Multiple vulnerabilities in SAP Business Objects Business Intelligence Platform" within BI/BO platform. We advice you to follow the instructions, to resolve information disclosure content spoofing cross-site scripting (xss) url redirection vulnerability with a medium potential for exploitation in component BI-BIP-INV.

According to SAP Security Advisory team a workaround does not exist. It is advisable to implement the correction as part of maintenance.

Solution

Information Disclosure : The hardcoded part where the password was explicit is been removed now to avoid password transparency. URL redirection : Validation is performed before redirecting the URL and redirection is restricted to AdminTools component. Content spoofing : The content in the page is restricted to standard error logs now, thus circumventing the vulnerability. XSS : The User inputs and URL parameters are now properly encoded to prevent a successful XSS attack.

SAP BI is a module meant for producing business insights and expands its power in combination with HANA DB and also exists as BW/4 HANA.
