Advisory
A note with CVSS 5.4 for component BI-BIP-BIW was released by SAP on 08.09.2020. The correction/advisory 2930128 was described with "[CVE-2020-6325] Multiple Vulnerabilities in SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform" and affects the system type BI/BO platform.
A workaround does not exist, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as part of maintenance.
The vulnerability addressed is cross-site scripting (xss) directory traversal within BI/BO platform.
Risk specification
SAP BI Workspace does not sufficiently encode user-controlled inputs, resulting in reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability. Additionally, a Stored Cross-Site Scripting is possible in the Web Intelligence HTML interface of the SAP BI platform. Also, the Web Intelligence HTML interface of SAP's Business Intelligence Platform allows an attacker with edit rights for documents to upload a malicious file (including script files) due to missing file format validation.Solution
Implement the patch to eliminate this program error by ensuring input and output are now encoded to prevent the cross-site scripting vulnerability. Additionally the mime-type is now properly checked to prevent the unrestricted file upload.
