Advisory
A note with CVSS 9.9 for component BW-WHM-DST-DBC was released by SAP on 12.01.2021. The correction/advisory 2986980 was described with "[CVE-2021-21465] Multiple vulnerabilities in SAP Business Warehouse (Database Interface)" and affects the system type ABAP.
A workaround exists, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as monthly patch process .
The vulnerability addressed is sql injection (read/write) missing authentication check within ABAP.
Missing authority checks are still the most common security defect related to authorizations in custom code. Since SAP uses an explicit authorization model, an authority checks must be coded in order to be executed. If an explicit check is not coded, all users have access. This type of vulnerability not only exists in SAP standard it also exists in customer coding. Check your custom developments for vulnerabilities that pose a risk to your systems. SecurityBridge helps detect code vulnerabilities before they are implemented in production.
Risk specification
This note has been re-released with updated 'validity', and ‘Support Packages & Patches’ information - This note addresses two vulnerabilities in SAP Business Warehouses' database interface. The Interface allows an authenticated attacker to gain access to all database tabled due to a missing authentication check and allows SQL injection resulting in the full compromise of the SAP System.Solution
The issues have been fixed by disabling the affected function module as they were no longer used. Although an alternative solution exists, it is advisable to apply the correction! This is the workaround, which was suggested by the SAP security experts: "As a workaround the function module mentioned in the correction instruction could be deactivated by deleting or commenting out the code as a modification (RSDL_DB_GET_DATA_BWS)".
