Advisory

A note with CVSS 7.1 for component WP-WSR was released by SAP on 08.02.2022. The correction/advisory 3140587 was described with "[CVE-2022-22540] SQL Injection vulnerability in SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP (Workplace Server)" and affects the system type ABAP.

A workaround does not exist, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as monthly patch process.

The vulnerability addressed is sql injection (read) within ABAP.

Missing authority checks are still the most common security defect related to authorizations in custom code. SAP NetWeaver ABAP does dynamically create an SQL statement where an attacker is able to change the query, allowing the attacker to read table content that would otherwise be restricted.

Solution

The application no longer dynamically create the WHERE clause of the SQL statement and thus prevents this type of attack
