Advisory

SAP takes the security of its vast product portfolio very seriously and thus releases security fixes for vulnerabilities reported by external researchers and their customers every second Tuesday of the month.

SAP Note 3202846 was released on 14.06.2022 and deals with "[CVE-2022-29615] Multiple vulnerabilities associated with Apache log4j 1.x component in SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio (NWDS)" within Java. We advice you to follow the instructions, to resolve code injection with a low potential for exploitation in component BC-DWB-JAV-COR.

According to SAP Security Advisory team a workaround exists. It is advisable to implement the correction as monthly patch process.

Risk specification

The component log4j allows an attacker to execute malicious code when he is in control of log messages or message parameters.

Solution

The application's dependencies were updated to a newer release that no longer contains these log4j vulnerabilities.  Alternativly, the consulting team has proposed the following: "You can apply the workaround procedure explained in note 3130521.
