SAP SQL Anywhere and SAP IQ database servers allow an unauthenticated attacker to remotely use a stack-based buffer overflow when the server is running a debugging option. This leads the attacker to read and modify data or impact the availability of a system.Solution
SAP SQL Anywhere and SAP IQ database servers have been fixed with an upgrade SAP SQL Anywhere 17.0 SP1 PL05 or later and SAP IQ 16.1 SP04 PL14 or SAP IQ 16.1 SP05 PL04. Although an alternative solution exists, it is advisable to apply the correction! This is the workaround, which was suggested by the SAP security experts: "Avoid using the server -z switch or the Debugging Information option for server patches prior to this correction.".
