Advisory

On 14.03.2023 a security relevant correction has been released by SAP SE. The manufacturer resolves an issue within BI/BO platform.

SAP Note 3245526 addresses "[CVE-2023-25616] Code Injection vulnerability in SAP Business Objects Business Intelligence Platform (CMC)" to prevent code injection with a hot news risk for exploitation.

A workaround does exist, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as part of maintenance, the team suggests.

Risk specification

SAP Business Objects Business Intelligence Platform (CMC) allows an attacker to inject code resulting in an escalation of privileges.

Solution

The option 'Use Impersonation' has been removed from CMC -> Application -> Central Management Console (CMC) -> Program Object Rights. It is now automatically considered as selected and will be required to provide credentials to schedule Program Objects.  Circumstances exist that prevent the timely installation of a patch provided by the manufacturer. In such cases, you may consider applying the suggested workaround as a temporary or compensating mitigation: "A temporary workaround for executing program Object in secure way please follow KBA 3245474".

SAP BI is a module meant for producing business insights and expands its power in combination with HANA DB and also exists as BW/4 HANA.
