On 14.02.2023 a security relevant correction has been released by SAP SE. The manufacturer resolves an issue within ABAP.

SAP Note 3275841 addresses "[CVE-2023-23851] Unrestricted File Upload in SAP Business Planning and Consolidation" to prevent code injection with a medium risk for exploitation.

A workaround does not exist, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as part of maintenance, the team suggests.

Missing authority checks are still the most common security defect related to authorizations in custom code. SAP Business Planning and Consolidation allows an attacker with business authorization to upload any files without the proper file format validation.

Solution

SAP Business Planning and Consolidation now checks the content type of the uploaded file to be an image before allowing the upload.
