vulnerabilities reported by external researchers and their customers every second Tuesday of the month.
SAP Note 3344295
was released on
08.08.2023 and deals with
"[CVE-2023-37491] Improper Authorization check vulnerability in SAP Message Server" within Kernel.
We advice you to follow the instructions, to resolve
missing authorization check / improper authorization check
with a
high potential for exploitation
in component BC-CST-MS.
According to SAP Security Advisory team a workaround exists. It is advisable to implement the correction as part of maintenance.
Risk specification
The Access Control List of the SAP Message Server could be bypassed, enabling an authenticated attacker to enter the network of the SAP systems served by the SAP Message server.Solution
With the newer Kernal version, SAP Message Server no longer allows an Access Control List bypass. Alternativly, the consulting team has proposed the following: "As a workaround, the internal port of the Message Server can be protected. The profile parameter "system/secure_communication" needs to be set to "ON" and the trace level of the SAP Message Server should remain below 2". The suggestion may be considered, as a workaround or compensating mitigation. We recommend installing/applying the correction wherever possible and as soon as possible. Base your decision on whether or not to apply the patch on your companies and systems risk perspective and consider the provided CVSS 7.5 score.
