SAP takes the security of its vast product portfolio very seriously and thus releases security fixes for vulnerabilities reported by external researchers and their customers every second Tuesday of the month.

SAP Note 3438234 was released on 09.04.2024 and deals with "[CVE-2024-27901] Directory Traversal vulnerability in SAP Asset Accounting" within ABAP. We advice you to follow the instructions, to resolve directory traversal with a high potential for exploitation in component FI-AA-AA-A.

According to SAP Security Advisory team a workaround exists. It is advisable to implement the correction as part of maintenance.

Missing authority checks are still the most common security defect related to authorizations in custom code. A vulnerability in SAP Asset Accounting could let a high privileged attacker manipulate the insufficient validation of user-provided path information, leading to misuse of the file APIs and potentially causing critical disruptions in the application operation.

Solution

To resolve the issue, the program RAALTE00 has been deactivated and program RAALTD01 has been modified to correctly verify the path information against logical filenames. Alternativly, the consulting team has proposed the following: "To resolve the issue, the program RAALTE00 has been deactivated and program RAALTD01 has been modified to correctly verify the path information against logical filenames". The suggestion may be considered, as a workaround or compensating mitigation. We recommend installing/applying the correction wherever possible and as soon as possible.
