On 13.08.2024 a security relevant correction has been released by SAP SE. The manufacturer resolves an issue within BI/BO platform.

SAP Note 3479478 addresses "[CVE-2024-41730] Missing Authentication check in SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform" to prevent missing authentication check with a hot news risk for exploitation.

A workaround does exist, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as part of maintenance, the team suggests.

This note has been re-released with updated 'Support Packages & Patches' information (a fix was also provided for BI PLATFORM SERVERS 4.2 SP009). SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform allows an unauthorized attacker to get a logon token using a REST endpoint resulting in full compromise of the system if single sign-on is enabled on Enterprise authentication.

Solution

Configuration of the Single Signed On Enterprise authentication is now secure by default. Circumstances exist that prevent the timely installation of a patch provided by the manufacturer. In such cases, you may consider applying the suggested workaround as a temporary or compensating mitigation: "1.
