On 10.09.2024 a security relevant correction has been released by SAP SE. The manufacturer resolves an issue within ABAP.
SAP Note 3505293 addresses "[CVE-2024-44112] Missing Authorization check in SAP for Oil & Gas (Transportation and Distribution)" to prevent missing authorization check with a medium risk for exploitation.
A workaround does exist, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as monthly patch process, the team suggests.
Missing authority checks are still the most common security defect related to authorizations in custom code. The component IS-OIL of SAP S/4HANA and SAP ECC allows an authenticated attacker to call a remote-enabled function, resulting in allowing them to delete entries in a user data table.Solution
The issue has been resolved by adding a check for access restrictions to affected functions. Circumstances exist that prevent the timely installation of a patch provided by the manufacturer. In such cases, you may consider applying the suggested workaround as a temporary or compensating mitigation: "Update in progress".
