On 10.09.2024 a security relevant correction has been released by SAP SE. The manufacturer resolves an issue within ABAP.
SAP Note 3505293 addresses "[CVE-2024-44112] Missing Authorization check in SAP for Oil & Gas (Transportation and Distribution)" to prevent missing authorization check with a medium risk for exploitation.
A workaround does exist, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as part of maintenance, the team suggests.
Missing authority checks are still the most common security defect related to authorizations in custom code. Risk specification
Due to missing authorization check in SAP for Oil & Gas (Transportation and Distribution), an attacker authenticated as a non-administrative user could call a remote-enabled function which will allow them to delete entries in a user data table. There is no effect on confidentiality or availability.Solution
The affected functions now properly check for access restrictions. Please implement the Support Package mentioned in this SAP Security Note, or implement the respective correction instruction. Circumstances exist that prevent the timely installation of a patch provided by the manufacturer. In such cases, you may consider applying the suggested workaround as a temporary or compensating mitigation: "Update in progress".
