Advisory

SAP takes the security of its vast product portfolio very seriously and thus releases security fixes for vulnerabilities reported by external researchers and their customers every second Tuesday of the month.

SAP Note 3049755 was released on 11.05.2021 and deals with "[CVE-2021-27613] Information Disclosure in SAP Business One (Chef business-one-cookbook)" within SAP Business One. We advice you to follow the instructions, to resolve information disclosure with a high potential for exploitation in component SBO-BC-INT.

According to SAP Security Advisory team a workaround exists. It is advisable to implement the correction as part of maintenance.

Information disclosure is when an application fails to properly protect sensitive and confidential information from parties that are not supposed to have access to the subject matter in normal circumstances.
Carefully review every information disclosure vulnerablity in regards to disclosure obligations post-GDPR for ‘Personal data’ under the Data Protection Act 2018.

Risk specification

Under certain conditions, Chef business-one-cookbook, used to install test systems for SAP Business One, allows an attacker to exploit an insecure temporary folder for incoming & outgoing payroll data and to access information that would otherwise be restricted.

Solution

The vulnerability was fixed by removing the setting from the template as it is now being used by the installation process.  Alternativly, the consulting team has proposed the following: "If the patch cannot be applied, then as an interim fix it is proposed uninstall and reinstall the impacted SAP Business One components.". The suggestion may be considered, as a workaround or compensating mitigation. We recommend installing/applying the correction wherever possible and as soon as possible. Base your decision on whether or not to apply the patch on your companies and systems risk perspective and consider the provided CVSS 7.8 score.
