On 09.05.2023 a security relevant correction has been released by SAP SE. The manufacturer resolves an issue within SAP GUI / Frontend.

SAP Note 3320467 addresses "[CVE-2023-32113] Information Disclosure vulnerability in SAP GUI for Windows" to prevent information disclosure with a high risk for exploitation.

A workaround does exist, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as part of maintenance, the team suggests.

Information disclosure is when an application fails to properly protect sensitive and confidential information from parties that are not supposed to have access to the subject matter in normal circumstances.
Carefully review every information disclosure vulnerablity in regards to disclosure obligations post-GDPR for ‘Personal data’ under the Data Protection Act 2018.

Risk specification

SAP GUI for Windows allows an unauthorized attacker to gain authentication information by tricking a victim into clicking a prepared shortcut file resulting in an information disclosure vulnerability.

Solution

The released Windows security module prevents this vulnerability. Circumstances exist that prevent the timely installation of a patch provided by the manufacturer. In such cases, you may consider applying the suggested workaround as a temporary or compensating mitigation: "Downloading SAP GUI patchesAll SAP GUI patches are available on SAP Support Portal. Detailed information about the location of the patches can be taken from SAP Note 563161.Please take into account that as of SAP GUI for Windows 8.00 there are two kinds of patches for core SAP GUI: A 32bit patch and a 64bit patch. You need to download the appropriate version matching your installation (else the attempt to update will be refused by the installation program).".
