SAP takes the security of its vast product portfolio very seriously and thus releases security fixes for vulnerabilities reported by external researchers and their customers every second Tuesday of the month.

SAP Note 3343564 was released on 11.07.2023 and deals with "[CVE-2023-35872] Missing Authentication check in SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (Message Display Tool)" within Java. We advice you to follow the instructions, to resolve missing authentication check with a medium potential for exploitation in component BC-XI-IS-WKB.

According to SAP Security Advisory team a workaround does not exist. It is advisable to implement the correction as part of maintenance.

Risk specification

The Message Display Tool (MDT) of SAP NetWeaver Process Integration does not perform authentication checks for certain functionalities that require user identity. Unauthenticated users might access technical data about the product status and configuration. The vulnerability does not allow access to sensitive information or administrative functionalities.

Solution

An appropriate authentication check was added to the application.
