Advisory
A note with CVSS 7.7 for component BI-RA-WBI was released by SAP on 09.04.2024. The correction/advisory 3421384 was described with "[CVE-2024-25646] Information Disclosure vulnerability in SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence" and affects the system type BI/BO platform.
A workaround exists, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as part of maintenance.
The vulnerability addressed is information disclosure within BI/BO platform.
Information disclosure is when an application fails to properly protect sensitive and confidential information from
parties that are not supposed to have access to the subject matter in normal circumstances.
Carefully review every information disclosure vulnerablity in regards to disclosure obligations post-GDPR for
‘Personal data’ under the Data Protection Act 2018.
Risk specification
A vulnerability in SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence Launch Pad allows an unauthenticated user to use a malicious excel document to access operating system information. If the attack was successful, it could lead to impact on confidentiality of the application.Solution
Extra restrictions are now added so that unsafe data in the excel document would not be readable Although an alternative solution exists, it is advisable to apply the correction! This is the workaround, which was suggested by the SAP security experts: "Please assess the workaround applicability for your SAP landscape prior to implementation. Note that this workaround is a temporary fix and is not a permanent solution. SAP strongly recommends you apply the corrections outlined in the security note, which can be done in lieu of the workaround or after the workaround is implemented. Remove Excel Data Access Service from all Adaptive Processing Servers.".

SAP BI is a module meant for producing business insights and expands its power in combination with HANA DB and also exists as BW/4 HANA.
