SAP takes the security of its vast product portfolio very seriously and thus releases security fixes for vulnerabilities reported by external researchers and their customers every second Tuesday of the month.

SAP Note 3472837 was released on 14.01.2025 and deals with "[CVE-2025-0055] Information Disclosure vulnerability in SAP GUI for Windows" within SAP GUI / Frontend. We advice you to follow the instructions, to resolve information disclosure with a medium potential for exploitation in component BC-FES-GUI.

According to SAP Security Advisory team a workaround exists. It is advisable to implement the correction as part of maintenance.

Information disclosure is when an application fails to properly protect sensitive and confidential information from parties that are not supposed to have access to the subject matter in normal circumstances.
Carefully review every information disclosure vulnerablity in regards to disclosure obligations post-GDPR for ‘Personal data’ under the Data Protection Act 2018.

Risk specification

SAP NetWeaver Application Server for ABAP and ABAP Platform allows an authenticated attacker to gain unauthorized access to system information, enabling them to retrieve details such as system configuration.

Solution

The issue was resolved by implementing stronger encryption for the input history database. Alternativly, the consulting team has proposed the following: "The input history can be turned off in the settings of SAP GUI.". The suggestion may be considered, as a workaround or compensating mitigation. We recommend installing/applying the correction wherever possible and as soon as possible. Base your decision on whether or not to apply the patch on your companies and systems risk perspective and consider the provided CVSS 6.0 score.
