Advisory
On 12.11.2024 a security relevant correction has been released by SAP SE. The manufacturer resolves an issue within SAP Web Dispatcher.
SAP Note 3520281 addresses "[CVE-2024-47590] Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in SAP Web Dispatcher" to prevent cross-site scripting (xss) with a high risk for exploitation.
A workaround does exist, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as monthly patch process, the team suggests.
Risk specification
This note has been re-released with updated 'Reason and Prerequisites' information (no customer action required). SAP Web Dispatcher allows an unauthenticated attacker to create malicious link, resulting in arbitrary code execution if an authenticated victim with access to the administration UI clicks on it.Solution
The URL parameters are now properly encoded to prevent a successful XSS attack. Circumstances exist that prevent the timely installation of a patch provided by the manufacturer. In such cases, you may consider applying the suggested workaround as a temporary or compensating mitigation: "Disable Admin UI either by disabling the Admin UI altogether or by removing the admin authorizations for all users.".
