A note with CVSS 4.7 for component BC-MID-ICF was released by SAP on 13.09.2022. The correction/advisory 3198137 was described with "Update 1 to Security Note 3165333 - [CVE-2022-28215] URL Redirection vulnerability in SAP NetWeaver ABAP Server and ABAP Platform" and affects the system type ABAP.

A workaround does not exist, according to SAP Security Advisory team. It is advisable to implement the correction as monthly patch process.

The vulnerability addressed is url redirection vulnerability within ABAP.

Missing authority checks are still the most common security defect related to authorizations in custom code. SAP NetWeaver ABAP Server and ABAP Platform allows an unauthenticated attacker to redirect users to a malicious site due to insufficient URL validation.

Solution

The application now properly checks the redirection URL before sending it before crafting the response and thereby suppress this type of attack.
